Each school year is guided by a Biblical theme, and this year’s theme, inspired by the eleventh chapter of the book of Hebrews, is “By Faith in Jesus, we live.” I’d like to encourage you to read this chapter of the Bible as part of your devotions to learn about the various “heroes of faith" that this chapter highlights. More than that it tells the story of God as the source and fount of that faith.

One of the forefathers of our faith that is mentioned in that passage is Abraham who, “when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” For me this passage conjures up images of Abraham taking his precious first steps of faith. He didn’t know where he would end up or of the obstacles he would face along that journey, but he knew he had to take a step.

That is a powerful image for me, is it for you too?

I think about Lutheran education in Cleveland and the people who laid the groundwork for where we are today. Again I'm led to give thanks as I consider the people who took steps of faith to support the ministry of the Cleveland Lutheran High School Association. Here we are sixty or so years later and we’re still walking by faith! Thanks be God.
