Christ-Centered Education for Life
Faculty Spotlight: Mrs.Chiles

This weeks’ spotlight focuses on Mrs. Chiles who has worked at Lutheran East longer than most any of the faculty. She began her career with us as an English Teacher. Mrs. Chiles also resurrected a long-forgotten drama program that continues to thrive.

This year she has joined our administration as our guidance counselor. Students benefit from already knowing Mrs. Chiles and having established relationships with her. We are excited to see the year unfold under her guidance! Students are already working with her on college applications, a college field trip, and planning that starts at the freshman year. Lutheran East students attend with college in mind, and so Mrs. Chiles helps to guide them from the very beginning toward the goal of being accepted to a college of their choosing.

Let’s see what Mrs. Chiles had to say during our interview:

L.E.: What is your favorite Bible verse or quote?

Mrs. Chiles: Serenity Prayer: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference."

L.E.: Tell us about your family.

Mrs. Chiles: My husband, Russ, and I are the proud parents of 3 energetic and inquisitive girls. Audrey, Lillian and Calista constantly keep us on our toes. We also have a dog, Annabelle.

L.E.: Tell us about where you went to college.

Mrs. Chiles: I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Secondary Integrated Language Arts Education. In 2007, I received my Master's degree from Ursuline College. Currently, I am enrolled in the Masters of School Counseling program at Kent State University.

L.E. Tell us about your hobbies or sports you are interested in

Mrs. Chiles: I love to read, shop, enjoy the outdoors, and spend time with my family. I am a huge Denver Broncos fan!

L.E.: If you had to choose Ohio State or Michigan, which would it be?

Mrs. Chiles: Ohio State

L.E.: Why did you decide to become an educator?

Mrs. Chiles: I love having a career that does not feel like a job at all. It is an extreme privilege to work with our students and bring out the best of them academically, socially, and spiritually. Our students are the reason why I am in this profession. As the school counselor, I have a gift and a responsibility of preparing our young men and women for the world outside Lutheran East's doors.

We thank Mrs. Chiles for her time. We also know that this year holds many challenges and many opportunities for all of us. We know that the students will truly benefit from the expertise Mrs. Chiles brings. We also wish her continuing blessing as she pursues her further education at Kent State University.
