Falcons Fall at Warrensville Heights 27-8

The Lutheran East Falcons fell to a tough Warrensville Heights Tigers team on Friday night to break their 3 game winning streak. On a cold, fall evening at Warrensville, the Tigers proved to be too much with a stifling defense that only surrendered 166 yards to the Falcons. The final was 27-8.

The first quarter, the Falcons missed many on multiple opportunities to jump out in front. Playing excellent defense and forcing the Tigers to punt on each drive, the Falcons put themselves into scoring position, but could not convert. Penalties hindered them and turnovers cost them dearly. After one quarter of action, the score was tied at 0-0.

In the second quarter, the back and forth battle continued but the Tigers found the endzone first with their ground attack. Trailing 6-0, the Falcons looked to answer and moved the ball well. Unfortunately, the turnovers again halted their effort and the Tigers took back a pick 6 to take a 14-0 lead going into half.

The Falcons had a lot of fight in the third quarter. With a ground game of Kaylin Heard (20 carries for 75 yards) and Mark Churchill (8 carries for 57 yards), they were able to move the ball well. After winding down a lot of clock Lutheran East finally got on the board with a 20 yard touchdown pass from Heard to junior Julian Hicks.

Unfortunately the mistakes were too much for the team to overcome. Losing the turnover battle 4-1 is typically a recipe for disaster, but the Falcons showed a lot of heart and fight in the losing effort. The clock wound to zero and the scoreboard read 27-8 Warrensville.

The team is back to work and will bounce back strong against Newbury next Friday, 7:00.
