This week’s spotlight focuses on Mr. Ben Triplett who is currently teaching history and psychology/ sociology here at Lutheran East. Mr. Triplett has also been the advisor for our student council until this year when he handed that off to a fellow department member. One of Mr. Triplett’s most important jobs is organizing our chapels throughout the year. As we all know, chapels are the main difference between any other school and Lutheran East. Twice each week we meet to worship God and to learn from His word. Mr. Triplett puts a lot of time into inviting speakings, creating engaging series of studies, and speaking himself.
Let’s see what Mr. Triplett had to say during our interview:
L.E.: What is your favorite Bible verse or quote?
Mr. Triplett: Proverbs 3: 5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight."
L.E.: Tell us about your family.
Mr. Triplett: I have been blessed throughout my life with a Christian family. My father is a pastor and my mother is a retired nurse. I have been married to my wife Connie since June 22, 2013. We are very excited to welcome our first child into our family in January 2016.
L.E.: Tell us about where you went to college.
Mr. Triplett: I attended college at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska from 2004 to 2008. While attending college there, I majored in Secondary Education with an emphasis in History and Theology.
L.E. Tell us about your hobbies or sports you are interested in
Mr. Triplett: My wife and I have a passion for activities that involve being outdoors. We love to climb mountains, go hiking, camping and canoeing. We plan to continue travelling and exploring different parts of our country and world. I take great joy in participating and watching sports of all kinds after briefly considering a career in sports broadcasting. I have many sports I enjoy playing and following, but my two favorite teams are the Indiana Hoosiers and the Chicago Cubs. I am also very involved as an elder in my church and very dedicated to reaching out to those who do not know Christ in our community.
L.E.: If you had to choose Ohio State or Michigan, which would it be?
Mr. Triplett: Ohio State
L.E.: Why did you decide to become an educator?
Mr. Triplett: When I was a student in 7th Grade my family moved from a small town where I was receiving a Lutheran education to a middle sized town near Buffalo, NY. After 6 years of public school, in junior high and high school, I did not feel that I was challenged or prepared for my future. I went to college without much experience in writing papers or researching and struggled tremendously in my first year. This drove me to make sure that students get an opportunity to be challenged and prepared for their future to open doors that may not be available to them otherwise. In addition, I had a passion to work with young people who were working to define their identity and help them to find their identity as a child of God and to know his love for them. A love that was so great he was willing to give up his life for their sins on the cross that they might spend eternity in heaven with him.
We wish Mr. Triplett and his wife many blessings on the arrival of their baby this winter. We thank him for sharing his passion and talents on a daily basis. The students at Lutheran East benefit tremendously from his tireless efforts to fulfill his mission.
