Teacher Spotlight: Mrs.McNeily - Director of Academic Success Services

It is time once again to embark on our Teacher Spotlight series. Over the course of coming weeks, we will spend time highlighting the faculty here at Lutheran East. We begin, of course, with our new staff members to give everyone a chance to know a little about them. We have an incredibly talented, thoughtful, and diverse group of faculty who contribute to the successes we experience as a school each year.

For the first Teacher Spotlight, we will feature Mrs. Crystal McNeily. Mrs. McNeily has joined Lutheran East as the Head of the Lutheran East Tutoring and Academic Success Center. Students now have the opportunity to visit with a full-time tutor to obtain assistance in academics and in coaching on state-mandated testing.

During the interview all respondents were asked a series of questions to help us learn more about them. See what Mrs. McNeily has to say:

L.E.: What is your favorite Bible verse or quote?

Mrs. Mc Neily: James 1:19-21: 19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent, and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

L.E.: Tell us about your family.

Mrs. McNeily: I have a husband and 4 children that have ages ranging from 5 to 12.

L.E.: Tell us about where you went to college.

Mrs. McNeily: I attended Capital University in Columbus, Ohio for one year. Then, I transferred and graduated from the University of Toledo. In the near future, I will be finishing my Master's Degree from Bowling Green State University.

L.E. Tell us about your hobbies or sports you are interested in

Mrs. McNeily: I love to cook. I get excited about new recipes. I like watching basketball but only during the playoffs.

L.E.: If you had to choose Ohio State or Michigan, which would it be?

Mrs. McNeily: Ohio State

L.E.: Why did you decide to become an educator?

Mrs. McNeily: I didn't grow up in the best of neighborhoods, but I had family, a church, and others that supported me being the best that I could be. They really poured into me the importance of being a leader. I wanted to be able to do the same. I wanted to be an example to others children who are in a similar environment that I grew up in.

L.E. : Anything else you would like us to know about you?

Mrs. McNeily: I love all kinds of music (clean of course): Country, contemporary, Hip Hop. If it catches my ear, you will probably hear me singing or listening to it.

Mrs. McNeily is certainly an amazing addition to the faculty! Tutoring is not an easy job since it requires finding and scheduling students who may not want to come for help, but who still need it. We recognize and appreciate Mrs. McNeily’s daily efforts to do her job well. We look forward to reporting our academic success at the year’s end.
