Lange Leadership Conference
Lange Leadership Conference

Over the Halloween weekend a group of emerging leaders from Lutheran East traveled to Valparaiso University in Indiana to hone their leadership skills as part of the Lange Leadership Conference. Our students joined other Lutheran high school leaders from all over the country including Colorado, North Carolina, Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri and Indiana for this three day event sponsored by the University.

After learning about what it means to be a Christian leader our students got to put their skills into practice by organizing, cooking, and then serving a community meal to hungry people in Valparaiso. Lutheran East sophomore, Nina Sims, said “I like that they gave us a chance to use the techniques that we were being taught.” Applying those techniques in real life scenarios ended up blessing the Valparaiso community as well as our students who had a real chance to lead and to serve.

At Lutheran East we believe that service and leadership are important aspects of the Christian life. The Lange Leadership Conference helped develop these traits, summarized best by Lutheran East junior Destinee Thompson when she said that the conference taught the participants “on how to become the type of leaders and servants Christ wants us to be.” We’re excited to continue living this out in our community.
