This week’s Teacher Spotlight features Ms. Emily Lundquist who is new to our faculty this year. The kids refer to her as Ms. L. She teaches science here at Lutheran East. We are proud to welcome her to the family of faculty this year. Students have certainly benefited from the tremendous knowledge, energy, and creativity she brings to the science department.
Let’s see what Ms. L has to share:
L.E.: What is your favorite Bible verse or quote?
Ms. Lundquist: Philippians 4:13- I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
It's my favorite bible verse because it is so empowering and helps me remember I can do anything I set my mind to with God's help, no matter how daunting the task may seem.
L.E.: Tell us about your family.
Ms. Lundquist: I have a great relationship with my mom, dad, and younger brother. We are very close and love to go boating and hiking together as a family. My brother is a junior at Ohio University and is studying to be a physical therapist. I am also close with my extended family. My cousins and I grew up together, and I would consider them some of my best friends. I love my whole family so much. God has blessed me with such a loving and supportive family.
L.E.: Tell us about where you went to college.
Ms. Lundquist: I went to college at Miami University my freshman year and then transferred to Ashland University the next year to become a teacher at one of the finest schools for education. I graduated from Ashland University in December 2014 with a Life Science Education degree and Biology major.
L.E. Tell us about your hobbies or sports you are interested in
Ms. Lundquist: I love to workout, play soccer or basketball, read, play with my dog Lana Rey, go wakeboarding, go hiking, dance, shop and watch netflix. I love being out in nature so I go hiking a lot and enjoy being active. My favorite sport is soccer and it's the only sport I can actually watch on TV, but I do enjoy going to sporting events.
L.E.: If you had to choose Ohio State or Michigan, which would it be?
Ms. Lundquist: Ohio State
L.E.: Why did you decide to become an educator?
Ms. Lundquist: I decided to become an educator because I have a passion for encouraging students to be the best they can be and motivating them to learn about science. My goal as an educator in biology and chemistry is to encourage students to see how amazing God's creation is and help them to understand the complexities of it. I love the subject I am teaching, but I also love seeing students get that "light bulb" moment when they finally understand something and knowing I helped them get to that point makes me feel like I have found my place in the world. I want to make a difference in someone's life.
L.E. : Anything else you would like us to know about you?
Ms. Lundquist: My birthday is March 14, PI day!
It has been great to learn a little more about Ms. L. We certainly wish her many blessings as she begins, and hopefully continues her teaching career, with Lutheran East.
