Football Notches 28-12 Victory over Whitney Young
The Lutheran East Falcons returned to their winning ways on Saturday with a 28-12 victory over visiting Whitney Young Warriors. In a very sluggish first half, the Falcons trailed 6-0 heading into the break. The defense played exceptionally well all day and surrendered only a touchdown pass in the first half. Leading the defensive charge were Senior linebackers Marvell Harrison (7 tackles, 1 for a loss) and Myles Sidney (9 tackles, 2 for a loss).
The second half was a different story for the Falcons. Sophomore running back Kaylin Heard got things going with a 3 yard touchdown run to take an 8-6 lead. With the defense continuing to get the ball back from the Warriors, the Falcons scored again on 3 unanswered possessions. Senior quarterback Mark McCary threw a touchdown strike to Junior Jose Lawrence and followed it up with a TD pass to Harrison. Heard finished off the scoring with another 3 yard plunge to complete the game. Heard had the most all around stat line on the day with 23 carries for 98 yards and 2 scores, 4 tackles, 1 fumble caused, 1 fumble recovered, and 2 interceptions for 100 yards.
Next up for the Falcons is another home game- homecoming on Friday, September 16 at 4:30pm versus St. John Ashtabula. The Falcons sit at 1-2 but are looking to right their early wrongs with a BIG WEEK against St. Johns!
