Spanish I

Description: Spanish I begins the development of understanding, speaking, reading and writing skills in the Spanish language. Instruction begins with an emphasis on listening and comprehension skills and continues with development of vocabulary, speaking, and writing. The student is introduced to Hispanic culture with an emphasis on topics of interests to high school students.
Spanish II

Prerequisite: Completion of Spanish I
Description: This course continues the expansion of knowledge acquired in Spanish I. The student continues their study of the Spanish language with more advanced work in conversation, vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing and study of Hispanic culture.
Spanish III/IV

Prerequisite: Completion of Spanish II
Description: Spanish III/IV is a course designed for students who have successfully completed Spanish I and II and who wish to gain further knowledge in the use of the language. Students will progress toward mastery in grammar, reading, writing, comprehension and conversation with the language. Students will gain additional knowledge and appreciation of the Hispanic culture through advanced study of literature and history.
French I

Description: From the first day in class, students will use the French language in a variety of speaking, listening, reading and writing activities. Students will work independently and collaboratively with their peers to develop all of these skills. Culture will be a focus as students learn about the history and lives of the people who speak the language. Students’ English vocabulary and grammar will also improve as they begin their study of another language.
French II

Prerequisite: Completion of French I
Description: The focus of French II is in-depth communication. Classes are conducted almost exclusively in the language with opportunities for students to use the language in practical and creative ways. As students study a bit more grammar, they will expand the use of the four skills with an emphasis on speaking and writing about specific topics.
French III/IV

Prerequisite: Completion of French II
Description: This course is designed to consolidate all the skills that have been learned so far and stresses the development of the four language skills. Emphasis is placed on increasing and improving oral communication. Reading strategies, comprehension, and writing skills are mastered. Students will continue to focus on French communication while delving even more deeply into cultural topics.
