Lutheran East Launches 1:1 Chromebook Initiative
Lutheran East Launches 1:1 Chromebook Initiative

Beginning at the start of this school year, Lutheran East made one of the biggest changes it has ever made to the educational product we deliver to our students. Our classrooms have moved into the 21st Century, as each student now carries a Google Chromebook computer and uses it as his/her primary educational tool throughout the day.

This is quite a change in the way that we deliver education! All of our textbooks are now e-books. The majority of our homework is now electronic. We are quickly moving to a world where our classroom and our school are completely paperless. Our students now have access throughout the day to instant collaborative environments, all of the boundless resources online, and the ability to have all of the work saved on the Cloud to access at any time.

In preparation for this change, we added to our extensive Wi-Fi network to handle the increased traffic. All of our teachers participated in a Google Certified Educator program that taught how to adapt education to an online environment. Each of our students then received their new Google Chromebook and went through a half-day of training on how to use it in the classroom and at home.

Through the first two months, our new 1:1 Google Chromebook initiative has been an incredible success! Our students enjoy not having to carry around books for each different class and having all of their work at their fingertips. The amount of collaboration and research done in class has increased. Our parents appreciate the convenience of being able to see all student work online. Our faculty members have worked hard to integrate new teaching methods and strategies into their repertoire. It will be fun to see how our education continues to change and evolve over the course of the months and years ahead as we move into an increasingly interconnected, technological world.
