During spring break, the Lutheran East Schola Cantorum (the select choir group) made a special trip to visit our nation's capital
The group of 23 Lutheran East students performed on the Marble Stairs of The Lincoln Memorial, the very place where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. They also performed at St. John's Church Lafayette Square and The National Museum of African-American History and Culture.
While on the National Mall, they we were able to visit the Washington Monument, The Jefferson Memorial, The Lincoln Memorial, World War II memorial, The Vietnam Women's Memorial, and more.
While in DC, they took a tour of Morgan State University. We were permitted to sit in on a rehearsal for their world-renowned choir as well as perform for them. While at Morgan, Dr. Eric Conway, Chairperson for Fine and Performing Arts, auditioned 2 of our seniors (Mikayla Brown, Twonge Watkins). Mikayla was admitted into the choir and given a $5,000 scholarship!
They also toured Howard University during their Spring "Homecoming," at which students were able to explore academics, Greek Life, and the HBCU collegiate experience.
Students who went on the trip said it was an amazing experience to travel with their Lutheran East classmates and to share their talents with new audiences. They felt blessed to have the opportunity to take this trip and are thankful for all those who helped to make it possible.
