Boys & Girls Basketball Teams Win Open Door Christmas Classic
Boys & Girls Basketball Teams Win Open Door Christmas ClassicThe Lutheran East Boys & Girls Basketball teams competed in the Open Door Christian Schools Christmas Classic Tournament over the weekend and walked away Champions.  The Girls won their opening game on Thursday night 65-31 and were paced by Darjaney Edwards' 21 points.  Senior Jeri Pollard poured in 13 points while Junior Guards Jamara McDowell and Jazmyne Darby each had 9 steals.  

The Lady Falcons moved on to the Final against Open Door on Saturday night.  Lutheran East dominated from the opening tip en route to a 49-23 win.  Darjaney once again led the way with 15 points and Jazmyne Darby dropped 14.  Kaelin Cobb was named to the All Tournament Team while Darjaney Edwards was named MVP.  The Lady Falcons finish the 2014 portion of their schedule with a  6-2 record!

The Boys Basketball team opened the tournament with a 62-42 victory of Heritage Christian.  The team started slow and were down 10-9 after the 1st quarter.  From that point forward, the freshmen guard combo of Derrick Veasely and Alex Heath led the way - finishing with 20 points and 21 points respectively.  Sophomore Tyler Powell finished with 15 points and Senior Bryce Harper added 10.

The Falcons moved on to the Finals against host Open Door on Saturday night.  The team opened quickly, jumping out to an 18 point lead in the 1st quarter behind stellar shooting from Tyler Powell, Alex Heath, Keandre Graves, and Derrick Veasely.  Open Door refused to give up and pulled even after 3 quarters.  The Falcons fought through the 4th quarter, with Powell and Graves hitting key free throws down the stretch.  The Falcons prevailed with a 65-55 victory and valuable experience in closing out games.  Keandre Graves paced the team with 21 points, while Powell (16 points) and Heath (12 points) also scored in double figures.  

Freshman Derrick Veasely was named to the All Tournament Team and Freshman Alex Heath was named MVP.  The Falcons finish 2014 at 5-0 and resume play Jan.5th at home against Cuyahoga Heights.
