Football Team Finishes 5-4, Earns All-District Awards

The Lutheran East Falcons finished a strong football campaign by defeating a tough Division V Pymatuning Valley team. The victory was huge for the Falcons as they capped off a 5-4 season; the first winning season at Lutheran East since 2006. Although the Falcons just missed out on a post season berth, they achieved a lot and have laid the groundwork for future success.

In a year of “firsts” and foundation building under first year Head Coach Adam Bickel, the Falcons accomplished many notable tasks. They played their first JV games in the school’s history and plan on having a full JV schedule in 2016. The roster size grew to 36 players, an increase of 29% from the previous season. And with an eligibility rate of 96%, the Falcons put student first in “student-athlete”. An enhanced weight room, pregame meals, spirit wear, and new helmet design were just some of the other notable upgrades to the program at LE!

The Falcons were recognized by members of the Associated Press in their annual selection of the All-District (Lakes) DVII Team. Leading the way was Rodney Paradise who was selected as the All-District Defensive Player of the Year as well as First Team Linebacker. Joining him on Defense were Senior Will Hartson (Linebacker) and Junior Mark McCary (Safety). On Offense, Freshman sensation Kaylin Heard earned First Team Quarterback. Three “two way” linemen joined the Falcons as First Teamers as well- Junior Tre Boyd (C/DE), Sophomore Anthony Durham (G/DT) and Sophomore Devon Devezin (G/DE). Coach Bickel and the staff earned Coach(es) of the Year as well. All-State and All-Star selections will be made throughout the months of November and December.
